I was born in 1986 and grew up in the Milwaukee area in Wisconsin. I attended high school in Germantown and developed my musical passion through the band program, mainly playing tuba and electric bass. I explored a number of opportunities during those years including playing in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, serving as Drum Major for the GHS Marching Band, conducting the school's symphonic band, taking music theory classes and after graduating, being asked to write a piece dedicated to Germantown's newly founded Youth Performing Arts Fund.
I am in the process of completing my undergraduate studies in Music Theory/Composition at Lawrence University in Appleton. At the moment, I am taking a leave of absence for personal, as well as academic reasons. I will be completing an extensive composition project during this time.
At Lawrence, I have studied composition with Joanne Metcalf, and the late Jennifer Fitzgerald (1975-2007, she will be missed). I have also studied Music Theory with John Paul Ito.
Things I've taken an interest in have included both jazz and experimental improvisation, sacred text setting, and most recently, short-form solo piano music. My graduate school plans are not yet solidified, but I would love to teach in the future.
